One of the main priorities of state policy is to improve road safety, aimed at protecting the life, health, and property of Russian citizens. This is a crucial factor for achieving sustainable socio-economic and demographic development in the country.
It is important to remember that road traffic accidents cause immense social, material, and demographic damage to the Russian economy and society as a whole. In the Russian Federation in 2022, more than 14,000 people died in road accidents, 159,000 people were injured, and 16,000 children under the age of 16 were affected, with more than 500 of them sustaining fatal injuries. The majority of those killed in road accidents are people aged 26 to 40. About 20 percent of those injured in these incidents were left with disabilities.
Each year, the Russian economy loses about 2% of its GDP due to road traffic accidents. These losses are comparable to the gross regional product of large regions such as the Krasnodar Territory or the Republic of Tatarstan.
Road safety depends on the discipline and professionalism of drivers. In Russia, more than 85% of road traffic accidents occur due to traffic violations by vehicle drivers. These accidents account for more than 80 percent of fatalities and more than 90 percent of injuries.
Due to the high number of accidents related to road traffic, the senior management of Rosgeo Holding decided to implement the "Safe Road" program.
The "Safe Road" project is an implementation of the Holding's Safe Vehicle Use Policy and is designed to minimize road accident risk factors, increase employee awareness of traffic rules and regulations, and improve the Holding's image as a responsible and socially oriented business.
“Safe Road” is a long-term program that has been running at the Holding since 2020. During its implementation, maximum attention is paid to analyzing and assessing the causes of road accidents, working with transport service personnel and drivers, and developing a safe driving culture among the employees of Rosgeo Holding's subsidiaries.
As part of this project, a set of measures is carried out annually to improve the road safety culture, including training and professional development for those responsible for transport safety, vehicle drivers, and employees who are road users. This includes driving workshops, masterclasses, seminars, the preparation of checklists, memos, and lessons learned from incidents to be shared with all Holding employees, the modernization of vehicle monitoring and management systems, and coordination with traffic police (GIBDD) authorities. Both invited participants from specialized organizations and Rosgeo JSC HSE supervisors actively participate in the project, monitoring the execution of the action plan within the established deadlines.
Following the implementation of the "Safe Road" program across the Holding, a 67% reduction in the number of road traffic accidents was recorded. This demonstrates that such campaigns are truly effective and contribute to improving road safety.
