Eagle Eye! Healthy Vision Day Practices at Rosgeologia Holding

18 November 2024 🇷🇺 Original: русский 1 min read

Medical statistics in recent years have consistently shown that humanity is facing serious vision problems. In Russia, 14,102,203 cases of diseases of the eye and its adnexa were registered in 2023, with 3,815,146 patients diagnosed for the first time in their lives. The overall incidence rate is 9,629 people per 100,000 population. In fact, this is every tenth resident of Russia — a staggering figure!

Based on these discouraging general health statistics, and in order to foster a culture of health awareness among employees, the management of Rosgeologia Holding decided to hold an annual Healthy Vision Day within the company.

What is Healthy Vision Day?

Healthy Vision Day has an official international name and date.

World Sight Day is an international day observed on the second Thursday of October by decision of the World Health Organization (WHO).

The goal of the event is to draw attention to the problems of blindness, visual impairment, and the rehabilitation of people with vision loss.

The history of World Sight Day began in 1998, when the WHO decided to draw global public attention to the problems of people with total or partial optic nerve atrophy. World Sight Day has been celebrated in its current format since 2000.

As part of the events, educational and preventive measures aimed at preventing eye diseases are carried out. In some countries, residents have the opportunity to be examined by an ophthalmologist during this time.

After analyzing global best practices and the experience of major Russian companies, we defined the program for Healthy Vision Day at our company.

How do we conduct Healthy Vision Day?

On Healthy Vision Day, we offer all our employees express vision diagnostics provided by a specialized medical organization, right on our premises and at a convenient time, without interrupting production.

Appointments are made on the medical organization's specialized website. This helps avoid "live" queues and prevents loss of working time, as each employee knows the exact time of their meeting with the specialist. If there is high demand for this service, we extend Healthy Vision Day and move it to additional dates.

On this day, employees can receive:

  • Free vision diagnostics: vision checks by high-quality ophthalmologists and optometrists using specialized ophthalmic equipment.
  • Selection of glasses and lenses: if necessary, an employee can select or order specialized prescription glasses on the spot, as well as special anti-computer, photochromic, or progressive glasses.
  • Special discounts: each employee receives additional discounts on ordering glasses and/or additional services from ophthalmologists.

Additionally, all employees receive a specialized corporate bulletin about Healthy Vision Day, best practices for disease prevention, and eye relaxation techniques.

Benefits of holding Healthy Vision Day

  • Increased health awareness: holding Healthy Vision Day helps raise employee awareness about the importance of regular eye exams. Many people neglect this procedure, unaware of the potential health risks.
  • Access to highly qualified doctors: the opportunity to receive a free vision check from qualified specialists on company premises is a significant advantage. Employees can quickly and easily learn about the state of their vision without extra costs.
  • Individual recommendations: each participant receives personalized recommendations for eye care and improving vision quality. This will help prevent the development of serious diseases and improve overall well-being.
  • Improved productivity: healthy vision directly affects employee performance and productivity. Addressing vision problems can lead to increased concentration and reduced fatigue in the workplace.
  • Building a culture of health care: organizing such events contributes to the formation of a corporate culture where employee health is a priority.

Evgeny,
What a great practice! Thank you for sharing. I've noted it down to organize something similar at our enterprise next year, or possibly even during OHS Month.
