On September 15, 2020, the first in-person HSE DAYS conference was held in Moscow, dedicated to the transition to the practical implementation phase of the Vision Zero concept in Russian industry.
The event was attended by representatives of industry, consulting, and service providers in the field of occupational health and industrial safety.
In the first part of the event, Hans-Horst Konkolewsky, President of the International ORP Foundation, and Elena Kompasenko, Head of the HSE Department at Zarubezhneft JSC, delivered presentations via teleconference, sharing the current achievements of industrial companies in implementing the Vision Zero concept.
In the second part of the event, Andrey Prokopenko, General Director of Suvorov LLC, presented the functionality of the Zero test program, which allows HSE DAYS project participants to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the Vision Zero concept implementation.
According to the organizer's plan, a list of practical tools is defined for each Vision Zero Golden Rule. Determining the quality and completeness of their implementation gives the industry an understanding of their current level, while practical recommendations from partners allow planning measures to address weaknesses.
HSE DAYS project ambassador Serik Mazhkenov noted the special significance of the project, which aims to unite the efforts of HSE professionals and managers of various levels to achieve a common goal – zero injuries, preserving the life and health of personnel in the workplace: "Using the huge potential of Russian specialists is the key to successfully solving the tasks facing the project. The intentions of leading experts, including international ones such as Deloitte, Ernst&Young, and Everyco, to participate in forming a unified approach and recommendations in assessing the industry according to the Vision Zero concept only emphasizes the relevance of the project and the correctness of the chosen approach."
The conference was accompanied by lively, sometimes even emotional discussions, but all participants agreed that the launch of the independent Zero test assessment program is long overdue, and the participation of the expert community will allow the industry to gain a wide range of opinions and different approaches to solving the same tasks.
Following the event, it was decided to collect participants' proposals on the list of practical Vision Zero tools, partner selection criteria, and other organizational issues. After processing the proposals, the agenda for the kick-off meeting to launch the Zero test program will be formed.
