In today's world, technology is evolving at an incredible pace, and one of the most promising areas is the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). However, in addition to many benefits, UAVs can pose a serious security threat to enterprises. In this article, we will look at the main risks associated with drones and the actions that employees should take to ensure safety.
Risks associated with UAVs:
- Espionage and industrial espionage. Drones can be used to collect confidential information about the company's activities, which can lead to data leaks and breaches of trade secrets.
- Security threat. UAVs can be used to deliver dangerous cargo or even weapons, posing a threat to the life and health of employees.
- Airspace violation. Using drones in restricted areas can lead to collisions with other aircraft or infrastructure.
- Equipment interference. A drone flying near sensitive equipment can cause interference and lead to malfunctions.
- Psychological factor. The constant presence of drones over a facility can cause anxiety among employees and reduce their productivity.
To minimize the risks associated with the use of UAVs, a number of measures must be taken to ensure the security of the facility. Here are some of them:
- Develop an action plan in case of drone detection. The plan should include threat assessment, taking necessary measures, and staff training.
- Install UAV detection and identification systems. This will allow for a prompt response to the appearance of drones near the facility.
- Restrict access to information about the company's activities. This will reduce the risk of espionage and industrial espionage.
- Conduct employee training on actions when a UAV is detected. Employees should know how to react correctly to the appearance of a drone and what precautions to take.
- Use electronic warfare (EW) equipment to neutralize drones. EW tools allow for suppressing UAV control signals and forcing them to land or fly out of range.
- Enter into an agreement with a security organization specializing in drone protection. Security organizations can provide qualified specialists and the necessary equipment for UAV protection.
- Comply with airspace usage rules. This will help avoid airspace violations and collisions with other aircraft.
Our facility has developed a memo for personnel actions in case of "drone danger," "air raid alert," and "UAV attack threat," with an action algorithm. An example of the memo is shown in the figure.
