Construction Site Environmental Specialists: How Professional Competitions Work

Wrapping up the series of blog articles, I would like to share our experience organizing a professional skills competition for the title of the best environmental specialist in construction at the "Stroy-Hero" festival of professions. This unique experience allowed us to assess the professionalism of employees working at PJSC Gazprom facilities and identify the best specialists in the field of environmental safety.

Goals and Objectives 🎯

The goal of the competition was to identify professionals with deep knowledge and skills in their field.

The main objectives included raising the prestige of the environmental specialist profession in the construction industry, supporting innovative approaches, and spreading best practices among colleagues.

Competition Stages 📝

Stage I: Creative Assignment. The task of the first stage consisted of presenting a video reflecting environmental protection activities and the enterprise's environmental risk management system.

Stage II: Theoretical Assignment. The second stage was a professional exam featuring test questions and situational tasks. This stage tested knowledge of environmental legislation and the sanitary-epidemiological welfare of the population.

Stage III: Practical Test. In the third stage, participants demonstrated their skills in real-life situations: modeling engineering and technical solutions for water supply, eliminating the consequences of water and soil pollution, conducting environmental monitoring, and more.

Evaluation Criteria 📊

Each participant was evaluated using a point-based system based on a special methodology approved by the Organizing Committee. The jury considered the speed and accuracy of task completion, compliance with standards and safety requirements, and the depth of understanding of environmental issues and methods for solving them.

Competition Results 🥇🥈🥉

Based on the results of the competition, the winners (top three places) were determined by the total number of points scored. Their achievements were recognized not only with certificates of honor and gifts but also with bonus allowances for a year and inclusion in the company's talent pool.

Starting the following year, the "Best Environmental Specialist" nomination was included in the program of the International Construction Championship (ICC), and our winners performed admirably as part of the PJSC Gazprom team, winning two prize places.

As part of the ICC, a working session of JSC Gazstroyprom was held with the participation of Svetlana Radionova, the head of Rosprirodnadzor, which highlighted the importance of such high-level events.

Furthermore, in 2024, the expert community of the V.I. Vernadsky Nongovernmental Ecological Foundation highly praised our initiative, noting its originality and contribution to the development of environmentally safe infrastructure. We were awarded victory in the "Sustainable Energy and Production" nomination at the V.I. Vernadsky National Environmental Award for the best comprehensive presentation of environmental specialists' competencies in construction.

We are proud of the results achieved and grateful to our specialists who demonstrated high professional qualities and a desire to improve. It is thanks to such initiatives that the future of our planet becomes brighter and cleaner. 🌍
