Going to Work with Mom, or a True Mission to Save Lives!

In childhood, we all answered the question: "What does your mom do?". My daughter Ksyusha used to say: "My mom works at a factory to keep everyone safe." It sounded impressive, but to her, they were just words.

Everything changed the summer after eleventh grade. With her final exams behind her, Ksyusha joined my department — the industrial safety department — as an intern. She thought we just signed papers and wore hard hats for show.

I remember our first joint inspection. We went down to the shop floor, where the equipment towered like fairy-tale giants. I showed her a broken guardrail mount.

"So what?" she asked. "It's just a small mount."

"But imagine," I said, "someone is in a hurry, slips — and this 'nothing' becomes the cause of a serious injury."

Something clicked in her eyes. Suddenly, she saw not just a noisy shop floor, but hundreds of potential risks that we had to protect people from. From an observer, she turned into my assistant. Together we checked the ventilation, she enthusiastically sorted through equipment passports, and in the evenings she would share:

"Mom, did you know that in such-and-such workshop..."

It was incredible to me. My teenage daughter, who just yesterday was worrying about her grades, was now explaining with shining eyes why protective covers must never be removed. She saw that my job wasn't about prohibitions. It was about ensuring that hundreds of people return home to their families every night. It's a true mission!

Now Ksyusha is studying at the university and can't wait to come back to the factory as a certified specialist. She says she now knows exactly what she wants to do.

And I am incredibly proud that our "family profession" is not just a tradition, but a shared cause. A cause that makes the world safer. And there is no greater joy than seeing your child choose the path of serving people!
