Personal Style: A Tool for Successful Development

5 October 2023 🇷🇺 Original: русский 1 min read

One of the most important traits of a successful person is their appearance.

I have always admired stylish people. They literally radiate confidence.

I wondered how they became that way. After all, successful people are not born, they are made.

Why do some people look stylish while others do not?

I can confirm that style can and should be learned.

When I realized I wanted career advancement but taking initiative and working successfully wasn't enough, I enrolled in special courses. As part of the classes, there was a masterclass on style and positioning led by a professional stylist and owner of a branded men's clothing store.

The instructor individually analyzed the appearance of each "student" — there were about thirty of them. To my surprise, only two or three of them looked good. I emphasize, not stylish, but good.

Then I changed my style. I selected clothes that fit, I wear blazers and tailored shirts. I carefully ensure my shoes are clean.

The attitude of those around me changed dramatically for the better.

Career advancement, invitations to conferences and new events, and a salary increase followed.

I would like to point out that the proverb "you are judged by your clothes" is absolutely true.

The most important way to make the right impression is through your appearance and demeanor.

It is necessary to distinguish between the concepts of style and fashion. Fashion is temporary; style is permanent.

Ways to be stylish:

  • hire a stylist, but they will form an image based on their own preferences since they don't know the target audience.
  • seeking advice in a store is a bad idea; a consultant isn't interested in dressing the client well but is obligated to sell the product. Statistically, only one in ten is actually competent.
  • modeling other successful people. You must consider your individuality and be critical.
  • a great solution is to master the basic rules of style and apply them.

Here are the basic principles of a handsome, memorable look for managers and specialists:

  • Clothing should be high quality, appropriate for the setting, and the right size. Sneakers are for sports; for an informal event, a stylish blazer, jeans, a white shirt, and classic shoes are suitable; for official meetings, a formal suit is required.
  • It is important to choose colors that suit you personally. Dark colors in clothing look much better against a winter landscape;

In summer, nature is bright (not to mention it's hot outside), so bright colors and light fabrics look more than harmonious.

  • Different belts for trousers and jeans. The belt should match the color of the shoes, which, of course, must be clean. Pockets are for a credit card or a few bills.
  • Men's shirts are worn without t-shirts/undershirts. The shoulder seam of the shirt should also "rest on the shoulder bone," meaning it should be in the middle of the shoulder. The bottom of the shirt should be ten to fifteen centimeters longer than the trouser waistline, allowing the shirt to be easily tucked in if desired.

Everything is interconnected, and one cannot look at a wardrobe as something isolated. Clothing is a part of self-expression available to us in everyday life that emphasizes our originality.
