Engaging Plant Management in Promoting Safety Culture

To create safe working conditions and identify risks affecting HSE, it is essential to involve all categories of employees.

At VTZ JSC, a Safety Day is held every month. For this purpose, working groups have been established and assigned to specific structural units.

These working groups include functional directors, department heads, and plant specialists.

The working groups conduct inspections of the structural units:

  • identify risks and hazards;
  • verify compliance with HSE requirements at workplaces;
  • conduct conversations (behavioral safety audits) with both plant personnel and contractors;
  • monitor the implementation of measures from previous Safety Days.

Following the Safety Day, a meeting is held under the leadership of the Managing Director. During this meeting, working group members report on identified violations and operational risks, share results of employee conversations, and analyze the findings.

Each working group prepares a report on identified risks and planned actions. Based on these reports, a plant-wide Action Plan is developed and approved, with responsible persons assigned, including members of the working groups. These members oversee the implementation of measures and provide support to the structural units.

The experience of holding Safety Days has shown:

  • there are no unsolvable issues;
  • each Safety Day helps involve more employees in the development of the safety culture.
