One of ASIA DRILLING's priorities is industrial safety, as nothing is more valuable or important than the life and health of employees. Every year, the company conducts over 500 industrial safety training sessions and more than 1,700 drills involving all drilling crew personnel. "Safety Framework" rules and Guidelines for identifying, recording, and analyzing hazardous actions and conditions have been developed and implemented. Risk assessments are conducted regularly, and Risk Assessment Analysis Cards (RAAC) are compiled.
A drilling rig does not forgive negligence, carelessness, or mistakes. Every operation must be performed deliberately, following the rules and ensuring safe work organization. To preserve the life and health of workers, the company regularly conducts hazard analysis and risk assessment, based on which a special, visual, and easy-to-understand tool is developed - Risk Assessment Analysis Card. The RAAC describes in detail all hazards and risks associated with a specific type of work, as well as measures to minimize them.
Why a worker needs RAAC
As the proverb goes, "A fool learns from his own mistakes, but a wise man learns from the mistakes of others." You could say that RAAC is a collection of operational actions for workers to perform correctly and safely. To avoid injuries and minimize the risks of their occurrence, every employee simply needs to know them. Here is what our company does for this:
First – before starting work, the supervisor in charge conducts a mandatory briefing using the compiled and approved RAAC. Briefing memos have been developed as prompts for each risk assessment analysis card. For example, the memo for the "Feeding drill pipes to the catwalk" operation describes:
Second – the employee can independently review the RAAC and memos – they are freely available in the office trailer.
Today, the company has developed 84 RAACs for various operations, such as "BOP Installation/Dismantling," "Adding drill pipe stands from the catwalk," "Loading and unloading operations," etc.
By knowing and following ALL the measures described in the RAAC, we minimize possible risks and preserve the life and health of ourselves and those around us.
