ASIA DRILLING is actively developing and implementing Instructional and Technological Maps (ITM) — an essential tool for standardizing and organizing the sequence of core production operations. Each ITM describes a single process in detail, including execution stages, the sequence of actions, and responsible personnel. For example, the map for the MBU hoisting unit installation process specifies all necessary operations, their content, and the person responsible for their execution.
Example:
Why are ITMs needed?
Each ITM establishes a clear framework: exactly what needs to be done and when, in what sequence, and by whom. This reduces the risk of errors and misunderstandings, making work processes extremely transparent. These maps eliminate unplanned actions and inconsistencies within the team, which is particularly crucial when working on a drilling site.
For new employees, ITMs serve as a vital guide. Mastering duties is now faster, as every map contains all the necessary information for a specific operation. A new worker can easily identify their responsibilities and receive clear instructions for each action. This shortens the adaptation period and helps them integrate into the workflow more quickly.
Working according to instructional and technological maps enhances employee safety: following approved rules minimizes the likelihood of accidents and incidents. Organizing work through ITMs allows for a reduction in non-productive time caused by uncoordinated actions. This, in turn, positively impacts wages, as the time allocated for core work is used with maximum productivity.
System Development and Future Plans
To date, the company has developed 38 instructional and technological maps for various processes — from loading and unloading operations to gas-hazardous work. However, the work does not stop there: the plan is to develop and implement a comprehensive ITM handbook including 74 maps for core types of work. This will help make procedural compliance automatic, creating safe and clear working conditions for every production employee.
Instructional and Technological Maps are a step forward in organizing work, improving safety, and increasing efficiency at every stage of the drilling process.
