Virtual Reality Training Complex

At oil refineries, significant emphasis is placed on measures aimed at compliance with industrial safety, occupational health, and environmental (HSE) requirements👷🏼‍♂️.

The Virtual Reality training complex is designed for virtual internships of enterprise employees in conditions as close to reality as possible when performing operations for working at heights ("Working at Height" simulator), operation and repair of process equipment ("Equipment Unit" simulator), and preparation for high-risk work ("Process Site" simulator), including:

  • verifying employees' theoretical knowledge on ensuring their safety when performing operations during the operation and repair of technological units;
  • practicing practical skills in safe conditions;
  • visualizing existing occupational risks when performing operations on technological units.

The surrounding environment is designed in accordance with the actual layout of facilities (street, workshop, pump room, etc.).

Detailed rendering radius: up to 20 meters around the simulated object. Objects outside the 20-meter zone are modeled in a simplified manner.

3D interactive models of units, equipment, pipelines, valves, etc., correspond to the main dimensions of real objects (width, height, depth, diameters), appearance, and design features.

The layout of objects and the distance ratios between them correspond to the actual layout within the site.

Color schemes and textures of the 3D model are close to the real object.

Scenarios for personnel operations have been implemented for each object.

All scenarios are single-role. The active character in all scenarios is the operator. The operator is modeled from the waist up, without the ability to see legs, of average height and build. The operator is dressed in corporate workwear.

Interaction with the senior operator during the scenario is carried out via radio by sending and receiving commands.

Movement in VR space is implemented in two ways: using teleportation and using the touch panel of the control units.

The list of possible actions on the object in VR is displayed on the trainee's hand.

Scenarios are divided into stages, with confirmation of stage completion required between them. Each stage has a name that is always accessible on demand, including in exam mode. The trainee moves between stages by confirming the completion of actions in that stage. For unperformed mandatory actions in a stage, the trainee receives penalty points.

The preparatory stage of each scenario is the selection of personal protective equipment (hereinafter referred to as PPE). Two of each PPE item will be presented: functional and defective. A list of PPE defects is provided. A defect always appears on the same PPE item, but the type of defect is selected randomly. In addition to the PPE required for the scenario, extra items are presented. Depending on the scenario settings, the trainee may be penalized for taking a defective PPE item and/or an unnecessary item.

The result of the training is a training report in the prescribed form, which is generated automatically.
