The Digital Future of HSE 💻

1 November 2023 🇷🇺 Original: русский 1 min read

Currently, occupational health and safety legislation is undergoing significant changes. The "regulatory guillotine" is being implemented, new legislative acts are being adopted, and amendments have been made to the Labor Code. In short, digital transformation is underway!!!

"Digital transformation," in a broad sense, implies creating a digital counterpart for any process. To achieve this, a process is broken down into its constituent elements, with each element assigned a name. A key aspect of the digital process is the substantial volume of data from each element, which is easily stored, leaving a so-called digital footprint. Let's look at the areas of HSE where the use of digital technologies is considered most effective:

  • Documentation of HSE procedures;
  • Monitoring safe work performance;
  • Monitoring employee health status;
  • Employee training and development;

Digital transformation is primarily moving towards electronic document management (EDM). In particular, digital services are being developed that include electronic HR document management, digital employment records, and the use of electronic sick leave certificates.

According to current legislation, enterprises maintain records of HSE department activities regarding the provision of protective equipment, safety training, and medical examinations.

This involves maintaining a large number of logbooks. All of this can be simplified and digitized using an enhanced qualified electronic signature instead of a manual one. A digital signature, rather than a conventional one, will help completely prevent document forgery, including training records. Electronic document management will allow for:

  • Maintaining logbooks in electronic format;
  • Implementing online training;
  • Automating the tracking system for medical check-ups and personal protective equipment (PPE);
  • Issuing permits to work;
  • Recording accidents, minor injuries, and occupational diseases;
  • Monitoring the timeliness of occupational risk assessment procedures;
  • Managing budgeting.

In the next post, we will go through each of these points in detail.
