Digitalization of Safety: From Idea to Mobile App

The implementation of modern technologies is becoming a prerequisite for maintaining a high level of industrial safety. During the webinar, Sergey Pelyukh, Chief Specialist of the Production Control Service at the joint venture Rusvietpetro, shares his experience in developing and implementing a corporate mobile application in the field of Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE).

The speaker discusses the prerequisites for creating the product: the need for prompt identification of violations in the workplace and the difficulty of preparing employees for certification at Rostechnadzor. Statistics show that the average success rate for exams on the Unified Testing Portal is about 51%. This became the driver for creating a tool that would combine risk control and personnel training.

Functional Modules of the App

The presentation details the functionality of the mobile app, which includes four main blocks:

  • Safety Control. The module allows recording risks directly at the workplace: adding photos, specifying the level and nature of the risk, linking it to a specific facility, and proposing corrective actions. An important feature is data caching when there is no internet connection, which is critical for remote production sites.
  • Personnel Training. A tool for preparing for Rostechnadzor certification. The app contains an up-to-date database of questions, allows taking mock tests offline, and analyzes error statistics to identify weaknesses.
  • Corporate Knowledge Base. Access to all necessary internal safety documents, available even without a network connection.
  • Company News. Informing employees about important events and posting materials aimed at building a safety culture.

Application Practice and Feedback

The speaker pays special attention to the integration of the app into workflows. All identified risks are verified by HSE specialists before being processed. To ensure continuous monitoring, notifications about critical risks are sent to specialists working around the clock.

Although the app has been used recently, positive dynamics are already noted: the success rate of certification has increased from 78% to 84%. Development plans include the introduction of video instructions and the development of an employee motivation system, including possible hazard identification competitions and integration with the improvement proposal system.

What you will learn from this webinar:

  • How to organize prompt accounting of occupational risks using a mobile app?
  • How to increase the success rate of Rostechnadzor certification?
  • How to ensure the operation of digital tools at remote sites with poor internet?
  • How to involve personnel in the hazard identification process and what motivation methods are planned?
  • How is the verification and processing of risk data received from employees organized?
