Focus on What Matters: Safety Months

18 November 2025 🇷🇺 Original: русский 1 min read

In the modern industrial environment, safety is not just a set of rules, but a strategic asset and a competitive advantage for a company. Since 2023, OTEKO has successfully implemented and operated a systematic practice of holding thematic safety months. This tool allows us not just to react to incidents, but to proactively manage risks by focusing the entire organization's attention on specific areas for improvement.

Structure and content of the safety month: from theory to practice

A safety month at OTEKO is not a one-time event, but a concentrated management cycle. Its effectiveness is ensured by a clear sequence of key activities:

  1. Start with a clear goal. The safety month opens on the corporate Safety Day with a detailed presentation. We outline the issues, back them up with statistics, analyze "good" and "bad" practices, and provide managers with ready-made tools — checklists and visual materials for conducting walkarounds.
  1. Targeted line walkarounds. Throughout the month, managers at all levels conduct safety audits focused on the declared theme. A key element is recording all data in the Automated Safety Management System (ASUB). This allows for a transition from subjective assessments to objective analytics.
  1. In-depth inspections and expert involvement. Depending on the topic, commission-based inspections are conducted. For example, during the fire safety month, temporary accommodation trailers were inspected, and during the transport safety month, road infrastructure was checked. This helps identify systemic risks, not just behavioral ones.
  1. Collective problem-solving. Round tables and brainstorming sessions bring specialists and managers together to generate effective solutions for complex issues identified during walkarounds and inspections.
  1. Training. Theory is reinforced by practice: master classes, mini-briefings, training sessions, and drills (for example, on evacuation or the use of fire extinguishers) ensure the direct involvement of every employee.
  1. Closing the cycle and recognizing achievements. The safety month concludes with actions, not just reports. Roadmaps are created to address the identified problems. In addition, we publicly reward the leaders — the most active and engaged managers — with thematic gifts.

Safety months are a powerful communication tool. They clearly demonstrate management's commitment to the "safety first" value, which increases staff loyalty, strengthens trust between regular employees and management, and fosters a culture of mutual responsibility.

Using ASUB allows us to transform scattered observations into structured data. Analytical reporting provides a precise understanding of which departments and what types of risks have systemic problems, enabling us to allocate resources purposefully and efficiently.

The practice of conducting targeted walkarounds and participating in brainstorming sessions turns managers into safety leaders rather than just administrators. They learn to identify risks, communicate with their teams about safety, and take responsibility for it.

Safety months at OTEKO are not a mere tick-box exercise, but an investment in sustainable business development. This practice allows us to systematically manage risks, engage personnel, develop leadership, and, as a result, create a reliable and productive work environment. Ultimately, safety is one of the key indicators of a company's management maturity, and the processes implemented at OTEKO serve as its solid foundation.
