GENERAL INDUCTION introduces HSE rules on the company's premises. It is conducted for everyone who comes to the plant to work for the first time.
WORKPLACE INDUCTION introduces HSE rules at a specific workstation. It is conducted for those who work at that specific location. It is repeated at least every six months to ensure that necessary information is retained and HSE skills remain up to date.
Why is workplace induction conducted every six months?
German psychologist Hermann Ebbinghaus studied human memory and developed the "forgetting curve."
The scientist conducted several experiments with students. The subjects memorized nonsense syllables using various techniques, while Ebbinghaus timed them and noted how they forgot the information.
It turned out that after the first 20 minutes, students remembered 40% of the syllables, after an hour — 35%, and after a week, they could only recall 23% of what they had learned. This relationship became known as the Ebbinghaus forgetting curve.
Therefore, any material is better remembered if it is reinforced through repetition. Otherwise, part of the information will be lost.
If we need to retain information for a long time, it must be repeated at intervals of a week or more. This allows it to be remembered for several weeks to several years.
TARGETED INDUCTION provides a one-time introduction to HSE rules at a specific site or when performing a specific one-off task. By the way, if you decide to organize a tour of the plant, a targeted induction will also be necessary.
UNSCHEDULED INDUCTION introduces updated rules. It is conducted after the introduction of any new HSE requirements or after an accident has occurred.
