Thursday – Spend the Day Assessing Results in the Field
An unshakeable rule of our project is that Thursday is a day without meetings, spent in the workshops. This helps us stay connected with our workers and what is happening on the shop floor, while also allowing us to qualitatively assess the results of implemented initiatives.
In our Company, it is customary to start such walkthroughs with preparation! We determine the area, the workshop for the walkthrough, and the site owner (escort) in advance. The workshop is selected based solely on value. For example, if an area has a risk of fatal injury, we need to assess the effectiveness of prevention measures. Conversely, if an area reports very few risks — mostly minor "trips and slips" — isn't that a reason to evaluate the quality of reporting?
Before the walkthrough, we additionally study the following materials:
We can easily obtain this data from our HSE Portal IT system.
The team uses this data to determine the route and focus of the safety walkthrough. As a rule, this significantly improves the quality of the inspection.
It is equally important not to lose information after the safety walkthrough. We struggled for a long time to integrate it into the communication cascade. We are happy to share the diagram 😊
