In modern industry, a dilemma often arises: how to increase economic performance without compromising the safety of employees and production processes. At the "Efficiency versus Safety" session, this issue became the central topic of discussion. Ayrat Zakirov, Director of TagraS-RS, shared practical experience in finding unconventional solutions that allow improving both indicators simultaneously.
The speaker provides an illustrative example from the aviation industry. Pobeda Airlines was able to achieve high profitability (28% versus 8% for competitors) not by speeding up the flight itself, but by optimizing processes on the ground. The standard turnaround time for an aircraft on the ground is only 25 minutes. This is achieved through perfectly tuned interaction with partners at airports: providing two boarding stairs, two buses, and advance baggage preparation. This approach demonstrates that efficiency often lies not within the core process, but at the intersection of interaction with partners.
Inspired by the aviation example, TagraS-RS revised its approach to hydraulic fracturing (fracking). Since the physical fracking process itself cannot be accelerated, the focus shifted to optimizing interaction with the customer between operations. About 100 solutions were generated regarding logistics, water, and proppant supply. As a result, the number of operations per fleet increased from 23 to 40 per month. The customer received more well operations within the same budget, and the company became the leader in fracking productivity in Russia.
The presentation detailed an unconventional approach to digitalization. Instead of starting with business process management, the company started from the drilling process itself — from the formation of the excavation in the rock. The implemented digital platform reduced the accident rate by 10 times and non-productive time by 4 times. The platform helps eliminate up to an hour and a half of inefficient, pseudo-safe work daily, which accelerates the process without compromising real safety.
Using the example of implementing sliders (equipment for rapid rig movement), the speaker shows how unconventional communication with the customer leads to success. By agreeing to work on large well pads (14 wells each), the company reduced the crew relocation time from 60 to 12 hours. At the same time, the number of hazardous operations decreased from 90 to 9. Another solution was the creation of 40-ton fracking equipment with a weight distribution of less than 6 tons per axle. This allowed the machinery to legally travel on federal highways, eliminating the risks of driving off-road and over flimsy bridges.
