From Routine to Engagement: Why HSE Training Requires Changes

The transition to new legislative requirements (Decree of the Government of the Russian Federation No. 2464) has become a serious challenge for many companies. The obligation of managers of non-production departments to conduct workplace briefings often meets resistance. The presentation details the experience of overcoming this barrier by transforming the training approach itself. Today, an HSE specialist must act as a "trendsetter" in safety, moving away from the format of dry lectures to interactive engagement.

Practice as the Foundation of Knowledge Retention

The speaker analyzes the key problem of traditional training — the use of exclusively non-simulated methods (lectures, reports), where the listener remains a passive recipient of information. To truly consolidate skills, it is necessary to introduce simulated methods: business games, situation analysis, and group training. This allows participants to filter theory through their own experience and realize the value of safe behavior.

Gamification Tools in the Specialist's Arsenal

During the webinar, specific proprietary developments that are successfully applied in practice are presented:

  • Interactive warm-ups: simple association exercises (for example, "packing for a safe picnic") that help relieve tension and engage the audience in the safety topic from the first minutes.
  • "Chamomile" practice: a visual tool for studying the duties of the employer and employee, allowing information to be structured in a playful way.
  • Risk hunting: group work with cards or an actual visit to the production site to identify hazards and develop preventive measures.
  • Personal protective equipment audit: an exercise to identify non-compliances in issued PPE kits, developing attentiveness and knowledge of standards.
  • Information loss analysis: a communication game based on the "telephone" principle, clearly demonstrating to managers the importance of clear instruction transmission.

Board and Floor Games as an Awareness Tool

The speaker pays special attention to the proprietary game "In Pursuit of the Main Thing". The mechanics are based on real accident investigation cases. By answering open-ended questions, participants themselves come to understand the importance of following the rules, without pressure or imposition from the facilitator. This approach stimulates internal motivation for safe work.

What you will learn from this webinar:

  • How to overcome managers' resistance when implementing new briefing requirements?
  • What game mechanics can be used to engage the audience in the HSE topic?
  • How to turn the study of regulatory requirements into an engaging process?
  • How to organize practical skills training for hazard identification and risk assessment?
  • How to use fiction and real cases to analyze the root causes of incidents?
