Achieving zero injuries in modern manufacturing is impossible without changing the employees' own attitudes toward safety issues. When compliance with rules ceases to be a formality and becomes a personal priority for every worker, the company moves to a new level of production culture. During the webinar, Vadim Gura, Head of the HSE Department at AGMK LLC, discusses practical tools for engaging personnel and forming a conscious attitude toward safe work.
The speaker emphasizes that an integrated approach is necessary to effectively change the safety culture. A communication program was developed at the enterprise, the goal of which is to make safety everyone's personal priority. It includes not only informing but also the active engagement of employees at all levels.
A key element of the program is the personal example of managers. HSE issues are always first on the agenda of any meetings. Managers personally participate in safety audits, use a full set of PPE when visiting production facilities, and ensure the presence of HSE specialists when reviewing any production projects. This demonstrates the company's real, rather than declared, commitment to safety issues.
Instead of formally reading instructions, engaging briefings have been introduced. The topics of five-minute safety talks are updated quarterly, taking into account the identified risks in specific areas. An important feature is the two-stage format: on the first day, the foreman provides information, and on the second day, they engage the workers in discussion, passing the initiative to them. This stimulates the active participation of the team in the process.
To maintain a high level of safety culture, effective tools for control and gathering feedback are necessary.
The SRA procedure is carried out in two stages: first, the worker assesses their workplace, then the foreman. Suggestions for improving working conditions are also entered into the SRA cards. The speaker notes the successful implementation of a mobile application for SRA, which significantly simplified and accelerated the process of recording non-conformities and suggestions.
BSA is aimed at identifying unsafe acts and conditions. Managers observe the performance of work, record errors, and conduct corrective conversations. This allows not only preventing incidents but also demonstrating the leadership qualities of managers in safety matters.
An important aspect is personnel motivation. The enterprise holds review competitions, safety raids, and gratitude raids with the presentation of valuable prizes and souvenirs. A system of signing personal and collective commitments to comply with safety rules has also been introduced.
Special attention is paid to working with contracting organizations. A special internet resource with the necessary documentation has been developed for them, and a quarterly assessment and awarding of the best contractors is carried out, which stimulates them to comply with the company's high safety standards.
